Atlas Copco quality air for leading wood based panels producer

First super energy efficient Atlas Copco GA 75 FF VSD PLUS compressor in Africa supplied by Atlas Copco Compressor Technique authorised distributor_Lowveld Compressor Service The first ground-breaking and super energy efficient Atlas Copco GA 75 Full Feature VSD+ (Variable Speed Drive) compressor to land on the African continent was supplied by Atlas Copco Compressor Technique authorised distributor, Lowveld Compressor Services, to longstanding customer, Sonae Novobord in Mpumalanga. The GA 75 VSD+ compressor boasts the cutting-edge permanent magnet (PM) technology recently introduced by Atlas Copco to its VSD+ range. Through this move to further boost its ultra-high efficient VSD technology range, Atlas Copco assists customers in increasing their production and reducing their carbon footprint to achieve sustainable productivity. “Because the VSD matches the compressor’s speed to compressed air demand, it is without question the most efficient option for applications where end-users regularly run their compressors below maximum capacity,” explains Industrial Air Business Line Manager, Charl Ackerman. “When used on a variable speed application, the completely redesigned VSD+ compressors offer up to 50% better energy efficiency at full speed operation, a figure that is even more impressive if taken into account that these machines boast a smaller footprint compared to their fixed speed counterparts.” Lowveld Compressor Services was established in Nelspruit in the 1970’s. Current owner, Francois Lloyd, took over the business from his father in 2008. This family-owned company serves a broad base of industries in the eastern part of Mpumalanga as well as in Swaziland including sugar mills (refinery processes), timber (press board manufacture), mining, and food & beverage (juice making, baking, food canning, etc.). The company has been a preferred supplier of Atlas Copco quality air equipment including GA compressors, air driers and in line filters to Sonae Novobord since 2000. Part of the global giant, Sonae Industria Group, Sonae Novobord is one of the largest wood based panel producers in Africa. The company’s White River and Panbult factories in Mpumalanga manufacture particleboard (chipboard), medium density fibreboard (MDF), melamine faced board and distribute high pressure laminates and laminated flooring. The GA 75 FF VSD+ will be used to supply air for instrumentation as well as direct feed into multimillion Rand production machines as part of an upgrade to Sonae Novobord’s White River plant. “Extremely clean and dry air is needed and there can simply be no compromise,” states Lloyd. “Atlas Copco product quality is without any doubt the best you can buy so we were able to recommend Atlas Copco’s new energy saving GA 75 VSD+ compressor to our customer with confidence.” “We are strongly committed to showing customers just how much they can save by presenting all the cost saving benefits that they can derived by using Atlas Copco quality air products and energy saving systems. The purchase of top quality energy efficient products like the GA 75 VSD+ is without any doubt an investment in both improved performance and efficiency. This small carbon footprint compressor uses substantially less electricity per litre of air delivered and is capable of saving power even at 100% load running which is unlike any other product currently available on the market. For end-users this means increased uptime and production, low operating and total ownership costs and a rapid return on investment for ultimate peace of mind. What is more, Atlas Copco never stops developing new ways of delivering more and more air per KWH spent on electricity.” The supply of the latest GA75 FF VSD+ increases the compressor fleet supplied by Lowveld Compressor Services to Sonae Novobord’s White River and Panbult plants to eleven units. Lowveld Compressor Services is responsible for all compressor maintenance and repairs and keeps stock of critical spares. Other products and parts are ordered from the Atlas Copco Distribution Centre. Lloyd makes extensive use of Atlas Copco’s user-friendly shop- and parts-online which he says streamlines order placement and further speeds up the delivery process. “We receive delivery on our orders placed directly within three to seven working days and breakdown parts are flown in from Belgium at no extra charge,” concludes Lloyd. “We are proud of our more than 40 year business relationship with Atlas Copco,” states Lloyd and concludes: “With our highly skilled team and extensive capabilities we are positioned to offer our customers professional compressor installations complete with Atlas Copco’s Airnet piping solutions.” Lighting towers, pneumatic breakers, drills and generator rentals also form part of Lowveld Compressor Service’s product offering. In addition to NOSA qualified and certified pressure vessel and boiler testing, the company is also equipped to take care of general repairs on all equipment.
