Philippi-Hagenbuch Introduces Push Block for Dislodging Off-Highway Trucks Without Damage

Image
PEORIA, Ill. (Jan. 15, 2019) — Philippi-Hagenbuch Inc., a global leader in off-highway truck customization, introduces the Push Block for articulated and rigid-frame trucks. PHIL engineered the Push Block to integrate with the rear chassis on off-highway trucks ranging from 20 to 400 tons. The optimal positioning of the Push Block allows operators a safe and engineered “push point” to dislodge trucks from areas with poor ground conditions without damaging the truck body or pushing equipment. “Contractors on large jobsites, from road construction projects to dam building sites, traverse sticky, muddy ground that can cause trucks to become stuck,” said Josh Swank, PHIL vice president of sales. “Prior to the development of the Push Block, support equipment, such as a dozer, pushed directly on the truck body to move it to dryer ground where it could regain traction. This type of pushing on the truck can damage the tires, hinge and even the body since there’s no component of a truck desig

JSE-listed EPP outperforms in 2018

Image
JSE-traded EPP, the pure Polish retail property fund, delivered a total return of 21% in 2018 to significantly outperform the market, making it the top performing listed property company of the year. This is a significant difference from the benchmark index (SAPY) total return of -25%. EPP CEO, Hadley Dean, says this is an affirmation of the company’s strategy. “Our focus on retail, specifically in the Polish market has given us clear advantages over some of our competitors who are more exposed to markets that are not as strong as Poland,” Dean said. EPP is one of only a few companies on the JSE property index (SAPY) to deliver a positive total return, according to Anchor Stockbrokers. The company, which first listed in August of 2016, announced its strategy to focus specifically on retail properties. It has more than doubled its portfolio, adding more than 240,000 sqm gross lettable area (GLA) to its total portfolio in 2018 and increased the total portfolio value to over EUR 2bn.

Understanding damage tolerance in hybrid bearings

Image
New research by SKF could make hybrid bearings more cost-effective and reliable, paving the way for their use in a wider range o f applications. Gothenburg, Sweden, 19 December 2018: Hybrid bearings, which combine hardened steel rings with rolling elements made of high-performance ceramic materials, are an increasingly popular option for demanding applications. Bearings of this type can outperform conventional designs where high speeds, high temperatures or poor lubrication conditions are experienced. Those characteristics have led to their use in jet engines and other critical aerospace equipment. Hybrid bearings also provide high levels of electrical resistance, making them useful in applications, such as electric motors and generators, where stray currents can damage steel bearing surfaces. Ceramic materials have many characteristics that make them ideal for bearing applications. Modern ceramics such as silicon nitride are hard, light and can be manufactured with an extremely s

A year of highlights for Sandton Central in 2018

Image
As 2018 draws to a close, Sandton Central can look back on a remarkable year of highlights. “2018 was a time of growth, improvement and celebration for Sandton Central and those who live, work, invest, shop, stay and play in South Africa’s cosmopolitan centre of commerce and culture. The year wasn’t without its challenges, but it also held many high notes,” says Sandton Central Management District (SCMD) City Improvement Management Elaine Jack. With 2018 marking Madiba’s centenary, several iconic celebrations and events were held in his name in Sandton Central. One that leaves a lasting legacy in the community is the global art-for-change initiative, iMadiba Project, which will expand Sandton Central’s public art urban furniture programme. It will add two new functional art benches to the district, one at Nelson Mandela Square and the other at the JSE. On the business front, a total of 132,400sqm of new office space was constructed in Sandton Central. Among the most significant de

People do business with people they know, like and trust. Building relationships, however, takes time and effort. Even so, relationships are fundamental to growing small businesses, and entrepreneurs should never lose sight of that. At small business accelerator Property Point, a Growthpoint initiative, relationships are considered to be so fundamental for building sustainable small companies that they are one of its three pillars: Risk, Reputation and Relationships. “The obvious relationships that a small business wants to nurture are those with clients, funders, suppliers or mentors. While less apparent, when you are building a business from the ground up, the power of peer networking is invaluable,” says Desigan Chetty, Head of Operations at Property Point. “Entrepreneurship can be an isolating journey, but you don’t have to go it alone.
